A Note on Recent Vandalism and Closure
Our store is currently closed due to vandalism that occurred at 3:21am on the morning of Sunday, 8/7. A group of 5 people arrived at our store on foot with a box full of rocks, which they then used to throw through and break nearly all of our windows. They did not enter the store or vandalize any other business downtown.
We do not yet have information about the group's motives. However, we have recently been bombarded with harassment and threats due to right-wing media attention, which grossly mischaracterized our youth sex ed classes.
We are working with Bellingham Police Department and our landlord to collect more information about this group. If you are a downtown business, we would appreciate you checking your cameras to see if this group passed by your shop.
We have no information about insurance and window replacement costs at this time. These costs will be in addition to the financial loss experienced during our closure, additional security when we reopen, and replacement of items ruined from the broken glass.
If you would like to support us, you are welcome to donate to our Venmo at @winkwinkboutique. or to the GoFundMe. We appreciate your support and are humbled to have the support of so many people, near and far.
